Large-Diameter Rubber Suction and Discharge Hose: Product Introduction and Usage Precautions

As a flexible piping equipment integrating transportation and suction functions, the large-diameter rubber suction and discharge hose is widely used in multiple core fields such as water conservancy projects, mining operations, municipal construction, chemical production, agricultural irrigation, and port logistics, thanks to its excellent structural stability, strong medium adaptability, and flexible installation characteristics. It can not only efficiently accomplish long-distance transportation of large-flow fluids (liquids, gases, slurries, etc.) but also achieve negative pressure suction operations under complex working conditions. It is a key equipment for solving large-scale and high-demand fluid transmission needs, providing a reliable guarantee for the continuous production and emergency operations of various industries.

I. Core Characteristics of the Product

(1). Material Composition

The large-diameter rubber suction and discharge hose adopts a multi-layer composite structure design, where materials of each layer work synergistically to ensure the product’s comprehensive performance meets the required standards:

Inner Layer:

High-quality elastomer materials such as high-purity natural rubber, nitrile rubber (NBR), neoprene rubber (CR), or fluororubber (FKM) are selected. Natural rubber inner layers offer excellent elasticity and outstanding wear resistance, suitable for media like water, mud, and ordinary slurries. Nitrile rubber inner layers feature superior oil resistance, enabling the transfer of various mineral oils and vegetable oils. Neoprene rubber inner layers boast strong weather resistance and corrosion resistance, ideal for complex environments involving acidic/alkaline media and seawater. Fluororubber inner layers are specifically designed for highly corrosive chemical media (e.g., strong acids, strong alkalis, organic solvents) to meet special working condition requirements. The smooth surface of the inner layer reduces medium flow resistance, lowers energy consumption, and prevents medium residue and scaling.

Reinforcement Layer:

Composed of high-strength polyester cord, polyester canvas, or steel wire braided/wound structures, it serves as the core layer for the hose’s pressure-bearing and negative pressure resistance. Polyester cord reinforcement layers exhibit high strength, tensile resistance, and fatigue resistance, effectively withstanding working pressure and suction negative pressure to avoid hose deformation. Steel wire reinforcement layers (divided into braided steel wire and wound steel wire) further enhance the pressure rating, suitable for high-pressure transmission or strong negative pressure suction scenarios. They also improve the hose’s impact resistance to cope with external impacts under complex working conditions.

Outer Layer:

Made of wear-resistant, weather-resistant, and anti-aging rubber materials, supplemented with UV and ozone resistant additives, it can withstand harsh environmental influences such as outdoor sun and rain, alternating high and low temperatures, and friction/collision, extending the hose’s service life. The outer surface is usually designed as corrugated or smooth: the corrugated type enhances anti-slip performance for easy dragging and installation, while the smooth type reduces sediment adhesion and lowers maintenance costs.

(2). Advantages of Structural Design

The product adopts an “inner layer – reinforcement layer – outer layer” integrated vulcanization molding process, where each layer is closely bonded with no risk of delamination, ensuring structural integrity. The large-diameter design (usually referring to an inner diameter ≥ 100mm, which can be customized up to more than 1000mm) meets the demand for large-flow transmission, with a flow rate of up to 1.5-3m/s, significantly improving operational efficiency. The hose features a small bending radius (typically 5-8 times the pipe diameter), enabling adaptation to installation in complex terrain without the need for excessive elbows, thus reducing fluid resistance and leakage risk. Additionally, the product possesses excellent negative pressure resistance, capable of withstanding a minimum negative pressure of -0.09MPa, preventing suction flattening and collapse of the hose during the suction process and ensuring continuous operation.

II. Key Performance Advantages

Efficient Transmission:

The large-diameter design combined with a smooth inner layer ensures low fluid resistance and high flow rate, meeting the needs of large-scale fluid transmission such as mine tailings transportation, water conservancy drainage, and port ship loading/unloading. Its operational efficiency is more than 30% higher than that of traditional pipelines.

Superior Adaptability:

It features a wide temperature resistance range (-20℃ to 80℃, extendable to -40℃ to 120℃ with special materials) and high pressure-bearing capacity (working pressure: 0.6-2.5MPa, up to 4.0MPa for customized models). Compatible with various media including water, mud, mortar, crude oil, diesel, acid-alkaline solutions, seawater, and food-grade fluids, it offers strong versatility.

Stable and Reliable:

The reinforcement layer is made of high-strength materials, boasting excellent tensile resistance, tear resistance, and fatigue resistance, with no easy deformation or damage during long-term use. The integrated vulcanization process ensures tight bonding between layers, eliminating leakage risks. Its service life can reach 3-5 years under normal working conditions.

Flexible and Convenient:

Made of rubber with good flexibility and light weight (more than 60% lighter than metal pipelines), it is easy to carry, install, and disassemble. It can be quickly deployed in emergency scenarios such as flood relief and temporary oil transmission. Meanwhile, it can adapt to complex working conditions like undulating terrain and vibrations, reducing installation costs and construction cycles.

Corrosion and Wear Resistance:

The outer layer is weather-resistant, wear-resistant, and anti-aging, while the inner layer is resistant to medium corrosion. It can work stably in harsh environments such as outdoor open areas, mine undergrounds, and chemical workshops, reducing product wear caused by the environment and lowering maintenance frequency.

IV. Usage Precautions

(1). Pre-installation Preparation

Inspect Product Appearance and Parameters:

Before installation, carefully check whether the hose surface has defects such as cracks, bubbles, damage, or delamination. Verify that parameters including the hose’s inner diameter, working pressure, temperature resistance range, and applicable media match the actual working conditions to avoid improper use of the product.

Confirm the Installation Environment:

Clear sharp objects, gravel, oil stains, etc., from the installation area to prevent the hose from rubbing against hard objects after installation. Ensure there are no obvious obstacles along the installation path and reserve sufficient bending space to avoid excessive stretching or compression of the hose.

Inspect Supporting Components:

Verify that the specifications of supporting components such as joints, flanges, and clamps match the hose. Ensure joints are free of rust and seals (O-rings, gaskets) are intact; replace with new seals if necessary to prevent leakage.

(2). Installation Process Specifications

Avoid Twisting and Excessive Bending:

Ensure the hose is naturally stretched without twisting during installation; otherwise, it will cause uneven force distribution on the reinforcement layer and shorten the service life. The bending radius shall not be less than the product’s specified value (usually 5-8 times the pipe diameter). Kinking or sharp bending is prohibited to prevent inner layer damage and reinforcement layer fracture.

Secure Joint Connections:

Use specialized clamps, flanges, or quick connectors for connection. Ensure the joint fits tightly with the hose end face during installation, and the clamp is tightened with uniform force to avoid hose detachment or leakage caused by excessive local stress. Temporary binding methods such as iron wire or hemp rope are prohibited to ensure connection reliability.

Reasonable Fixation and Support:

For long-distance laying, install brackets or hooks every 3-5 meters to prevent the hose from sagging and stretching due to self-weight. Add rubber gaskets at the contact points between the brackets and the hose to avoid wearing the outer layer.

Avoid Proximity to Heat Sources and Hazards:

The installation path shall be kept away from heat sources such as steam pipes, boilers, and open flames, with a minimum distance of 1 meter to prevent accelerated aging of the rubber material. When transporting flammable, explosive, or corrosive media, stay away from fire and power sources, and take adequate anti-static measures.

(3). Operational Requirements

Control Medium Parameters:

Strictly use the product in accordance with the working pressure and temperature range marked on the nameplate. Overpressure and overtemperature operation are prohibited (the working pressure shall not exceed 1.1 times the rated pressure, and the medium temperature shall not exceed the conventional range of -20℃ to 80℃, except for special materials). Avoid instantaneous pressure impact; operate valves slowly when opening or closing to prevent hose damage caused by water hammer.

Ensure Medium Compatibility:

It is forbidden to transport media incompatible with the inner layer material of the hose. For example, natural rubber hoses shall not transport oil products or highly corrosive solutions, and nitrile rubber (NBR) hoses shall not transport strongly oxidizing media. This prevents inner layer corrosion and swelling, which can lead to hose failure.

Regular Inspection and Maintenance:

During use, regularly inspect the hose surface for wear, bulges, leakage, aging cracks, etc., and check whether joints are loose and seals are intact. Immediately shut down and replace the hose if abnormalities are found; operation with defects is prohibited.

Avoid Dragging and Collision:

Do not directly drag the hose to move equipment. If position adjustment is required, lift the hose or use tools for transportation. Prevent heavy equipment from rolling over the hose or sharp objects from scratching it; take adequate protective measures at the work site.

(4). Storage and Maintenance Specifications

Storage Environment Requirements:

When not in use, the hose shall be stored in a well-ventilated, dry, and cool warehouse, avoiding direct sunlight, rain, and snow exposure. The storage temperature shall be controlled between -10℃ and 30℃, away from heat sources, ozone sources (e.g., motors, transformers), and chemical warehouses.

Correct Storage Method:

The hose must be cleaned and dried before storage to prevent inner layer corrosion caused by residual media. Store it rolled into a disc shape (with a diameter not less than the specified bending radius) and fixed with ropes; folding and squeezing are prohibited. For long-term storage, turn over the hose every 3 months to avoid local deformation due to pressure.

Avoid Improper Stacking:

Do not stack heavy objects or sharp items on the hose, and avoid storing it together with oils, acids, alkalis, or other chemicals to prevent outer layer contamination and corrosion.

Regular Maintenance:

For hoses that have been idle for a long time, conduct a comprehensive inspection before reuse, including a pressure resistance test (water pressure test pressure is 1.5 times the rated pressure, maintaining no leakage for 30 minutes). Only put it into use after confirming it is intact. Hoses with severe aging or reduced performance shall be scrapped in a timely manner and shall not be used continuously.

(5). Safety Warnings

  • Operators must receive professional training, be familiar with the hose’s usage specifications and safety precautions, and wear necessary protective equipment (e.g., gloves, goggles, protective clothing). Especially when transporting corrosive or toxic media, thorough personal protection measures shall be taken.
  • When transporting flammable and explosive media, anti-static grounding measures must be implemented. No smoking or open flames are allowed at the work site, and fire-fighting equipment shall be provided. In case of leakage, immediately shut down the equipment, evacuate personnel, cut off the fire source, and handle it in accordance with the emergency plan.
  • Repairing damaged hoses for reuse is prohibited—especially those with inner layer damage or reinforcement layer fracture. This prevents hose burst during use and subsequent safety accidents.
